Ways of Seeing 2.0: Selfie and the Documentary film
A talk by Amarnath Sandipamu
Entry free – All are invited
The first ‘Ways of Seeing: Conversations on ways of looking at Documentary films’ was held on July 31st, 2015 at Lamakaan. The event saw enthusiastic audience pondering over the ideas around what makes a documentary film and all ways in which it can exist. This edition of the talk delves into how the dawn of the ‘selfie era’ changed the way we look at ourselves and the realities around us in the context of the nonfiction form.
The title of the talk has been taken from the seminal book by John Berger by the same name who developed theories around how art is perceived and consumed in the modern times.
Come! Let’s ponder over what governs our gaze today and the challenges and opportunities for documentary films in the Indian context today.
#Amar is an independent filmmaker from Hyderabad. His films Mana Kaloji and Bommalollu (as co-director and editor) have been screened earlier in Lamakaan. He was invited to hold a talk under the ‘Cinema Talk’ series in 2015 called Ways of Seeing. The current event tries to take that dialogue forward with the audiences.
